Birthdays
Mood:
energetic
well, it has been a bizi weekend here at holcroft. It was Kayleigh, my daughter's 17th birthday on sunday, she now has a driving license.. albeit a provisional but still.. heaven help us all. We went out for dinner her choice was a carvery, I must say I was impressed, I havent had a carvery for a great many years, and yes I am feeling old right now. Doesnt help that it's almost my 40th birthday.. that day looms ever closer. but what's an age right?
yesterday on the field, I had Morgan n Homer out together, they dont get to go out together much owing to their size, they are both sweet, adorable mum loving dogs, but let anything come between them and me.. and I'm sure I would have a quite a job on my hands to control the both of them.
anyways off the went, Holcroft's come with three settings.. 1. lead walk
2. Flat out
3. stop
you can imagine which setting was in use. We'd been out there for a good hour when Morgan turned to face me, uttered a loud growl and hurtled back towards me.. oh dear what has she seen was my first thought, I swivelled round to see a biker behind me the push bike type, of course he had used his manners and stopped moving when he saw me with two dogs, I called them both to me and they stood still at my side both their tails stuck right up in the air, you just know they're thinking "one false move mister and your tyres are ours!"
the biker went on his way and I sent Morgan n Homer off again in s earch of the elusive pheasant for diunner.. well you never know, one day they might actually catch one!
we saw a guy with two very bad tempered terriers so we took a detour to our usual route and ended up another hour out of our way, but that was ok, it was a lovely day. On the way back I 'think' I have finally found Morgan's limit, strewth that gilr can run all day or so I thought, on the way back she found a shady spot and did a belly flop outretching her back legs behind her, waiting for me to catch up with a daft grin on her face panting heavily.. well I never (I thought) Morgan's tired.. hmmmp naaa she was just cooling her belly, as soon as I reached her she was up and off again at full steam.
we got onto the last field and were met by a young fella with a baby lab well nine months old he was. he commented on what a gorgeous pair of labs I had and asked where I got them "they are Holcroft labradors" I told him.. OMG he sed, you have two? they are from a local breeder arent they? I have heard of them, infact my sister rang that breeder for a puppy but was sent away with a flea in her ear she's a bit of a snobby bitch dont you think?!
well I didnt know what to say to that comment.. I actually didnt mind the 'snobby bitch' but, but how do I say nicely. so I settled for "well I got on with her ok" he went on to tell me how his sister had only asked the price of a golden lab.. ahhhh"well then, that would possibly be one of two things" I tokld him.. "for one I KNOW the breeder doesnt like her dogs being called 'golden' and two... if anyone rings and the first question is 'how much' I ecven I know that this will get most breeder's backs up and they will just tell you to go look in the free ads" lol.
we chatted a bit more and he was asking how he should go about 'studding' his wee labrador pup.. oh dear some ppl. I explained nicely that there are lots of wonderful stud dogs out there that actually DO something, like show, or compete in working trials and as a rule pet boys are not considered good enough, even IF they are the bestets looking labrador in the world.
then he asked me how come I have ended up with not one but TWO Holcrofts' seeing as the breeder is sooo damn fussy.. I had to smile then and confess.. "that's coz I AM the breeder, see you later"
ohhhh my his face was a picture
