soggy doggies
She had her meds first thing this morning and was very quiet (NOT like her), she limited herself when the others were running about like lunatics, poor Dallas couldnt understand why her mum was growling at her all the time, all she wanted to do was play mad with her mum. so rather than see Mads get nasty with the others and they in return get stressed, I took Morgan n Homer for a long outing to the lake, then when I came back at lunch, I had a quick chat with suz, then Dallas came to high country park with me, we finally got home at around 5pm. we went further than I've ever been and ended up we run out of park! then it happened, the heavens they did open and spew forth the most evil torrential rain along with the noisiest damn thuinder I've heard for a long time.
I went into major panic mode then coz thunder triggers my panic attacks, and asthma, I had no inhaler.. luckily there was a meeting of elderly men and two of them had the inhaler I needed, what a life saver. I sheltered with them for a while under the canal bridge but really wanted to get home. we were already soaked to the skin so Dallas and me carried on with our heads down.. well mine was.. dallas was still chasing bunny rabbits and squirrells.
b y the trime we reacghed the last open stretch before the hall the rain was bucketing.. omg I thought, well this is ist the home run, only I was that knackered I couldnt run lol from behind me I heard an engine, two work men in a pick up truck, they took pity on us, after they howled with laughter and sed to get up in the back of the truck, it is open but at least quicker than walking.. so one of them got out, lifted a soggy dallas then an even soggier me onto the truck and took us upto the hall, was only a five minute walk then to the car park. I didnt wanna get in the car with my clothes on but driving in the 'altogether' is illegal so I had to, was ok for Dallas coz she could lay and rub herself dry on the thick pile parcet in the back.. I had to drive in soggy clothes for half an hour.

Have just arrived home from the vets, Richard gave Mads a thorough going over, but said that as Mads was soo tense, he couldnt feel exactly what was going on in her leg. Mads had a rough ordeal with her last whelping and we spent the whole time at the vets then two emergency ops later she was allowed home, so I can forgive her being a little tense this evening. anyways outcome is that Richard cant really do anything today, which I knew really, it was just a case of assessing how bad she was for 2morro. Mads has been allowed to come home for tonite with some more metacam, in the hope of calming the pain enough for Richard to have a look, he feels x-rays are the way to go 2morro if things dont settle down any tonite. It's looking like it is down to her arthritis however Richard has not ruled out the possibility of the fibro adnexus being the cause. there's always sumthing to stop you in your tracks isnt there!
Mads is quiet atm after the excitement, she's going to have to put up with being demoted to pet status tonite though and slum it with me in the house.. she usually sleeps with her daughter Dallas in thier kennel. But I wanna keep a check on her tonite.

Poor MADISON
Mood:  sad

went down to let the dogs out this morning, Mads came out of her bed then collapsed in a heap on the floor and couldnt get up . She was crying, wagging her tail but her back leg has gone.. she has arthritis in her hock as well as her elbow, so I s'pose it was just a matter of time before she had real problems. She's due another injection in her elbow anyway. I am just hoping that it is her hock that's hurting her and not the fibro adnexus thing. (there's only one way out of THAT one). Wouldnt you just know it tho, Pual has my car today. just rang him at work and he's gonna bow out and bring the car home for us and take his own back, he'll end up doing a cpl of extra hours to make the time up tho.
I have given Mads some metacam this morning and between us Kayleigh n me managed to get her out of the kennel and upto the house. well ok Kayleigh lifted her onto her feet and supported her till she got used to the pain.. my poor baby. I hate it when she's in pain.
I am gonna get a shower now then ring Richard, I think he'll say to double up on her meds for today and take her into surgery first thing in the morning coz he cant give her a GA now she's just eaten. obviously she's better to go on an empty tum.
so say a prayer for my angel plz

Tonight we cheated death
Mood:  accident prone
not once, but TWICE.. I am still reeling.
took Homer n Dallas to dog class tonight, Kayleigh came with us too. We set off, been driving on the motorway for about five minutes when torrential rain smothered us like a blanket, it was that bad we had to slow right down to 45 mph, couldnt see a damn thing in front of us nor behind. the road surface, if you could call it that, was totally obscured by the water on top of it. Just got used to that, we were in the first lane coz I'd slowed right down, then up at the side of me was a big truck, the driver was obviously unaware of us in our 'lab cab' and started to move over into our lane OMG.. I couldnt do anything, had to swerve onto the hard shoulder, cant help wondering what would have happened if there were no hard shoulder aloing that strtetch. ok so there I am struggling to drive on the hard shoulder in the rain, desperately trying to get infront of the truck that could very well have been our downfall. finally managed that and at least the truck driver did actually aknowledge then that he had almost killed us.
peedled along to class then when every bone in my body wanted me to turn the car round and come home.
Homer n Dallas did well and enjoyed the class. home time came and I never gave the near mniss any thought. set off for home, ok to get home we have to drive along three motorways, the weather was still quite nasty, but thankfully not as much traffic to cope with. We'd got onto the last motorway, about ten mins away from home now. Got speed up and into the outside lane, then OMG.. SMASSHHHH saw this HOUSEBRICK hit my bonnet, half an inch away from the windscreen. All I can think is.. either someone was stood on the footbridge we had just driven under, or part of sed bridge had fallen off, right on top of us! In shock I pulled over onbto the hard shoulder that had saved us once tonite and called the police
the very nice police lady calmed me down and sent a car out to check the area. meanwhile I was asked if the car was driveable, well I had been out of the car once to try and asses the damage, but the traffic was tooo close for comfort and a lot of trucks were about, so they told me to drive home if I was ok to drive, then asses the damage and they would send someone out to see me.

LOVE is a many splendored thing
Mood:  cheeky
we actually met (and Homer fell in love with) a gorgeous looking girl on the field the other day.. this stunning little furball came rushing towards us making this cute squeaking noise, her face was the double of my Shelby but oh my the hair.. to be honest I had thought that she was a labrador with a beautiful thick coat. Homer was smitten with this wee girl , shelby was with us and believe me it was difficult to tell them apart (I know shame on me) but I kid you not, this dog WAS for me a lab.. the guy sed she's seven years old, my shelby is nine. I commented that they could be related by looks alone (and I HATE it when ppl say that, but in this case it could have been true) he agreed with a chuckle and sed ohhh maybe they are at which point I told him that Shelby had been bred by me, then he told me his girl was a goldie/lab cross.. well you coulda blown me down with a feather. I was gobsmacked.. but she was gorgeous, and I could have happily bought her home with me.. lol even Homer thought so, wee horror completely ignored me when I sed time to go our seperate ways and he trundled off with the guy and his goldie mix hmmmp no amount of coaxing on my part would have Homer come back to me.. and I hate thiose ppl who holler after their dogs who are obviously not interested in a word their owner is saying.. so I walked off and left Homer gambolling with this cute wee lady , thinking that once he realises mom is gone he'll come bounding after me.
I spose the guy was thinking along the same lines too and carried on walking but ignoring Homer and his oblivion to me. lol.. I didnt mind really coz I knew Homer was having fun and the other dogs owner was happy for him to go walkies with them.. I caught site of them on the next field and beckoned to the guy to send Homer back. I saw him catch Homer's collar and give him  an 'away' command, then Homer searched for me (I was waving my hands like mad lol) and the love came bounding back to me with his tongue hanging out.. all bright eyed and bushy tailed.
I spose what I SHOULD have done was call him once and go get him, like I tell everyone else to do.. but heyyy Homer was having fun with this wee lady. maybe she had just finished her season I didnt ask.. but anyway.. her owner took it on good humour.

Birthdays
Mood:  energetic

well, it has been a bizi weekend here at holcroft. It was Kayleigh, my daughter's 17th birthday on sunday, she now has a driving license.. albeit a provisional but still.. heaven help us all. We went out for dinner her choice was a carvery, I must say I was impressed, I havent had a carvery for a great many years, and yes I am feeling old right now. Doesnt help that it's almost my 40th birthday.. that day looms ever closer. but what's an age right?

yesterday on the field, I had Morgan n Homer out together, they dont get to go out together much owing to their size, they are both sweet, adorable mum loving dogs, but let anything come between them and me.. and I'm sure I would have a quite a job on my hands  to control the both of them.

anyways off the went, Holcroft's come with three settings.. 1. lead walk

                2. Flat out

                3. stop

you can imagine which setting was in use. We'd been out there for a  good hour when Morgan turned to face me, uttered a loud growl and hurtled back towards me.. oh dear what has she seen was my first thought, I swivelled round to see a biker behind me the push bike type, of course he had used his manners and stopped moving when he saw me with two dogs, I called them both to me and they stood still at my side both their tails stuck right up in the air, you just know they're thinking "one false move mister and your tyres are ours!"

the biker went on his way and I sent Morgan n Homer off again in s earch of the elusive pheasant for diunner.. well you never know, one day they might actually catch one!

we saw a guy with two very bad tempered terriers so we took a detour to our usual route and ended up another hour out of our way, but that was ok, it was a lovely day. On the way back I 'think' I have finally found Morgan's limit, strewth that gilr can run all day or so I thought, on the way back she found a shady spot and did a belly flop outretching her back legs behind her, waiting for me to catch up with a daft grin on her face panting heavily.. well I never (I thought) Morgan's tired.. hmmmp naaa she was just cooling her belly, as soon as I reached her she was up and off again at full steam.

we got onto the last field and were met by a young fella with a baby lab well nine months old he was. he commented on what a gorgeous pair of labs I had and asked where I got them "they are Holcroft labradors" I told him.. OMG he sed, you have two? they are from a local breeder arent they? I have heard of them, infact my sister rang that breeder for a  puppy but was sent away with a flea in her ear  she's a bit of a snobby bitch dont you think?!

well I didnt know what to say to that comment.. I actually didnt mind the 'snobby bitch' but, but how do I say nicely. so I settled for "well I got on with her ok" he went on to tell me how his sister had only asked the price of a golden lab.. ahhhh"well then, that would possibly be one of two things" I tokld him.. "for one I KNOW the breeder doesnt like her dogs being called 'golden' and two... if anyone rings and the first question is 'how much' I ecven I know that this will get most breeder's backs up and they will just tell you to go look in the free ads" lol.

we chatted a bit more and he was asking how he should go about 'studding' his wee labrador pup.. oh dear some ppl. I explained nicely that there are lots of wonderful stud dogs out there that actually DO something, like show, or compete in working trials and as a rule pet boys are not considered good enough, even IF they are the bestets looking labrador in the world.

then he asked me how come I have ended up with not one but TWO Holcrofts' seeing as the breeder is sooo damn fussy.. I had to smile then and confess.. "that's coz I AM the breeder, see you later"

ohhhh my his face was a picture

Dallas

Well yesterday was 28th, bank holiday monday. Dallas and I went to the great harwood agricultural show. Dallas had lots of fun and won her class, came home with a lovely red rossette! For a change the weather held out and we managed to do the show in the dry. The judge was Suzanne Williams and she must be so popular coz I have never seen so many entries for a dog show in years! well done Suzanne Wink.

Then we were invited to a friend's house for lunch, she hasnt been in there long so it's still very much a work in progress.. but we had a great day yesterday.

Today is not as good weather wise I'm sorry to say, we have been indoors most of it, it's only now as afternoon moves into evening that the sun has decided to put his hat on and come and play. Still, better late than never and the labs are now basking outside in the sunshine. I'm going back out now to play some games whilst we can.

tuesday
Mood:  energetic

well,

good morning, I did leave the above post. but as I am still very new at this I did it all wrong hahahahahaha

Diane, thanks for your lovely comments about my website, it is still very much a work in progress, I am adding bits all the time, like that poem for Madison, I only put that up last week, I wrote that when she was six months old, of course now she's over six years old, I just never thought of having it on here, it's always been in her file (I have a file for each dog, their healtrh records, show files, pictures and some poems).

tell me a little about Reeve if you like, sometimes it is definitely better to talek about these things, specially when a mate leaves us, we NEED to trmemeber the smiles they gave us.

Topic: First entry

Well hello and welcome to my first weblog ever! Not really sure how this goes so bear with me.

OK that done. Not much happening today, been raining all morning so dogs have been stuck inside with me. We have Kia with us today, her first wet day here I think, she cant quite understand why I want them inside instead of running about outside. All that hair, she's not bothered if it's raining or dry.
